A Class of Transformations that Polarize Symmetric Binary-Input Memoryless Channels

چکیده
A generalization of Arıkan’s polar code construction using transformations of the form G where G is an l × l matrix is considered. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for these transformations to ensure channel polarization. It is shown that a large class of such transformations polarize symmetric binary-input memoryless channels.

Extremality for Gallager's Reliability Function $E_0$
We describe certain extremalities for Gallager’s E0 function evaluated under the uniform input distribution for binary input discrete memoryless channels. The results characterize the extremality of the E0(ρ) curves of the binary erasure channel and the binary symmetric channel among all the E0(ρ) curves that can be generated by the class of binary discrete memoryless channels whose E0(ρ) curve...
متن کاملThermodynamic derivation of the mutual information for discrete symmetric channels
Abstract The mutual information for the binary symmetric channel as well as for the discrete symmetric channel consisting of 4-input/output (I/O) symbols is explicitly calculated using the generalized second law of thermodynamics which was recently proposed by the first two authors. For equiprobable I/O the mutual information of the examined channels has a very simple thermodynamic form as a fu...
متن کاملThe maximum mutual information between the output of a discrete symmetric channel and several classes of Boolean functions of its input
We prove the Courtade-Kumar conjecture, for several classes of n-dimensional Boolean functions, for all n ≥ 2 and for all values of the error probability of the binary symmetric channel, 0 ≤ p ≤ 1 2 . This conjecture states that the mutual information between any Boolean function of an n-dimensional vector of independent and identically distributed inputs to a memoryless binary symmetric channe...
متن کاملCarnot in the Information Age: Discrete Symmetric Channels
Modeling communication channels as thermal systems results in Hamiltonians which are an explicit function of the temperature. The first two authors have recently generalized the second thermodynamic law to encompass systems with temperature-dependent energy levels, dQ = TdS+ < dE/dT > dT , where < · > denotes averaging over the Boltzmann distribution, recomputing the mutual information and othe...
متن کاملOn the Parity-Check Density and Achievable Rates of LDPC Codes for Memoryless Binary-Input Output-Symmetric Channels
We introduce upper bounds on the achievable rates of binary linear block codes under maximum-likelihood (ML) decoding, and lower bounds on the asymptotic density of their parity-check matrices; the transmission of these codes is assumed to take place over an arbitrary memoryless binary-input output-symmetric channel. The bounds hold for every sequence of binary linear block codes. The new bound...
